is a major city in Pakistan and is the capital of the province of Punjab. It is
located near the river Ravi and the Indian border. Lahore has 6.5 million inhabitants
and thus is the second largest city in Pakistan. It is considered to be the 23rd
largest city of the world. Punjabi is the language of the province, and is the
most widely spoken language in Lahore. Punjabi spoken by the people of lahore
is known as lahori punjabi due to a mixture of punjabi and causual/slang urdu
spoken in Lahore.
Karachi Karachi is the largest city of Pakistan
and the capital of the province of Sindh.It is the financial and commercial hub
of Pakistan. The city is located on the Arabian Sea north west of the mouths of
the Indus River. With a population of around 15 million it is considered one of
the most populous cities of the world. Karachi located at latitude 24° 48´ N
and longitude 66° 59´ E is the city of lights, a city that never sleeps. In
a period of 58 years, Karachi has transformed itself from a small coastal village
into a megapolitan city harboring a mix of cultures. It is a country in itself.
It is the business and technological hub of Pakistan. It has the highest literacy
rate and the best educational institutions in the country. It has Arabian Sea
in the South and River Indus in west.
Peshawar Founded over 2,000
years ago by the Kushan Kimgs of Gandhara, Peshawar, the capital of NWFP province,
has had almost as many names as rulers. Moghal emperor Akbar, formally gave the
city the name Peshawar which means "The Place at the Frontier. Peshawar's inhabitants
consist mainly of two groups: majority Pakhtuns (including recent Afghan Pakhtun
refugees) and minority Peshawaris (native Peshawar peoples speaking Hindko who
are often referred to as "Panjabi Pathans"). In addition, smaller groups of Tajiks
and Hazaras as well as Gypsies can be found in the city
Quetta Quetta
is the capital of the province Balochistan in Pakistan. It is located in a densely
populated district in the northeast of the province. Quetta is situated in a river
valley near the border with Afghanistan, with a road to Kandahar in the northwest.
Quetta has a population of about 650,000. The city is dominated by a Pakhtun majority
and a Balochi minority with an eclectic smattering of smaller groups. Pushto,
Balochi, Brahui, Sindhi, Punjabi and Urdu languages are spoken in large parts
of Quetta, giving the city a very multicultural feel. Quetta is a major tourist
attraction for tourists from abroad. It is advertised as a thrilling location,
full of adventure and enjoyment. For those interested in local cuisine, there
are many sumptuous dishes to feast upon. The "Sajji" (leg of lamb) is said to
be very good by locals. |
