| The
advent of "Basant" or spring is marked by thousands of colorful kites dotting
the skies of Lahore in the month of February. The sheer number of kites of all
shapes and sizes, the skill of the flyers to control them and the height and distance
to which the kites ascend makes for a fantastic sight. This largest kite flying
festival in the world is also known as "Jashn-e-Baharan" thanks to its celebration
to herald the onset of spring. It draws kite-flyers from all over Pakistan. The
flyers try to cut the strings of their rivals and after achieving success in their
endeavor they shout Bo-Kata |
